Many of our iconic species have been wiped out to the brink of extinction thanks to trophy hunting.
Most of us are beginning to understand that trophy hunting has no bearing on conservation or gives much needed income to those in local communities struggling to survive. It’s a myth perpetuated by hunting companies and organisations whose members relish killing animals for enjoyment and pleasure. Income made from trophy hunting goes to the hunting outfitters and hunt ranches and a few people who organise the hunts in the countries where trophy hunting is carried out. Some hunters insist that the meat from the animals is given to the poor in the local community. Yet we read in the adverts that the hunting lodges and ranches keep the meat from the game killed and serve it up in their restaurants as gourmet dishes. Benign projects like schools and medical centres that are promised for the local community from trophy hunts tend not to pass the planning stage or are often abandoned.
The whole idea of trophy hunting is abhorrent to the British Public as we saw in the reaction of Love Island’s fans and the public and celebrities in the UK to the young trophy hunter taking part called Ollie Williams. It was very encouraging to see so many young people have such fierce opposition to what can only be described as wanton slaughter of wildlife. Every generation responded to this young man’s involvement in such a cruel sadistic industry and hopefully this wave of revulsion will continue to be outspoken and grow in the UK. It’s essential that the British people make this new Conservative Government aware that hunting for fun and pleasure has no part in a modern society. All those that participate in trophy hunting are damaging our wildlife species to the point of no return. At the very least they have no moral right to do so and at the very worst they are pathological serial animal killers. A link has been established between serial killers of humans and animal torture and killing according to psychologists. No surprise there then.
But trophy hunters only kill the sick, injured and elderly animals to help conservation…….that’s a load of rot! The very definition of a trophy is “a cup or other decorative object awarded as a prize for a victory or success” hence the photographs taken with the animal after the kill. ‘Hey look at my victory for killing such a magnificent object! I am truly blessed with success and a mightier human being for achieving the death of this animal!’ They take their actions as justifiable because they believe they can rely on people to accept they have done it in the name of conservation. When did a trophy hunter want a sick or injured animal to adorn his wall? The captive lion farms kill sick, deformed, injured and unhealthy looking lions for their bones. The good looking healthy robust lions are kept for the trophy hunters to kill. They will pay good money for an animal in its prime. But they don’t really want an elderly or weak animal because the thrill just isn’t there for them in the killing spree.
Please fill out the questionnaire and help stop the import and export of hunting trophies. We need to let our government know that we would like a complete ban on hunting trophies. If we don’t stand up to trophy hunting the government may be persuaded to repeal the Hunting Act Ban 2004. There is a small minority of people who support hunting and firmly believe they have friends in high places. They are already ignoring the ban and killing and torturing wildlife in the countryside. We want this illegal activity to be stopped NOW!
